In 1972, the Information Sciences Institute was established at the University of Southern California, and I am proud of the people who have been part of our journey for the past five decades.
From our earliest work in programming languages, software verification and information automation to our most recent efforts in machine learning, health informatics, and human language understanding, ISI has been at the forefront of each succeeding generation of computing and information research. Beyond technical contributions to numerous and transformational Internet technologies, ISI played a unique and central role in convening the community of researchers that brought the Internet to life.
We are pioneers in computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and are at the forefront of quantum computing research. Numerous startups were also founded at ISI. Reflecting on our achievements, we’ve come further than we had ever hoped for, and I look forward to imagining, creating, and realizing the next wave of breakthrough computing technologies going forward. Happy anniversary, ISI!
